Fila's was born of a textile DNA that was luxuriously and vibrantly textured. Inherent in its arrival as a global brand, was its love affair with tennis. The brand tailored its collection of clothing and footwear to the elite athlete, and then made that same luxury accessible to spectators. More than an icon, Fila sought both an on and off-court presence that spoke to personal involvement. Fila had begun to carve its niche as a brand that not only catered to the well-heeled, but to the individual performer.
Fila is one of the world’s largest sportswear manufacturing companies. It was founded in Italy in 1911 by the Fila brothers, who originally started making textiles and clothing for the people of the Italian Alps. The story of Fila's transformation into a leading global designer of high-end sportswear has been one of evolution driven by a philosophy of innovation that lies at the heart of their most successful designs. In 1923, the brothers officially established the expanding family-run textile business as a high-quality knitwear manufacturing company, entering into a limited partnership named Maglficio Biellese. Through the years, the business expanded to all corners of Italy and was known as quality knitwear manufacturer. In 1942, the company merged with the Fratelli Fila Company, and by 1972 the company sales were booming and their work force was well over 200. Wishing to further expand the company, Giansevero Fila hired Enrico Frachey as the managing director of the firm in 1968. Frachey shared Fila's vision and it was his creativity and innovation that ultimately transformed Fila into a global sportswear brand.
They have now stretched their product line to offer sportswear and footwear to men, women, kids, and athletes. Fila’s expertise in the making of their clothing has also helped them in the production of their footwear. Fila shoes offer players of every level the same support, flexibility, and cushioning needed to excel on the court. Tennis stars Janko Tipsarevic and Marin Cilic take full advantage of Fila’s innovative shoe support system by sporting the Alpha II. When it comes to stylish apparel, look no further than women’s former world number 1 and current number 2 player Kim Clijsters. She dawns all Fila apparel and trusts the brand when she needs to be playing her best. It offers above average breathability with extensive support.
Fila has continued to impress with their unique style and innovative designs for on and off the court products. Offering the absolute best in footwear and apparel is their number one goal while providing maximum flexibility and performance. Whether you’re an avid tennis player or someone who gets out and hits every once in a while, you know you can trust Fila with all your sportswear needs!
