Before there was the Swoosh, before there was Nike, there were two visionaries who pioneered a revolution in athletic gear that redefined the industry. Today, Nike continues to seek new and innovative ways to develop superior athletic products, and creative methods to communicate directly with our consumers. Nike is the largest athletic manufacturer and respected by all countries.Nike was originally founded as “Blue Ribbon Sports” in January of 1964 by University of Oregon track athlete Philip Knight and his coach Bill Bowerman. The company initially operated as a distributor for Japanese shoe maker Onitsuka Tiger (now ASICS), making most sales at track meets out of Knight's automobile. However; in 1967 BRS was able to open a retail store in California and continue to pick up steam. By 1971, BRS prepared to launch their own line of footwear which would illustrate the new logo of the Swoosh, created by Carolyn Davidson. The Swoosh was first used by Nike on June 18th, 1971 and since then has become the world’s most recognized logo. The word Nike was derived from the Greek goddess of victory. In 1978, BRS officially renamed itself Nike and brought on tennis legend Ilie Nastase as the first professional athlete to sign with them. Sponsorship of athletes became a key marketing tool in the company’s growth and success.
Within the tennis industry, Nike offers a wide variety of products including apparel, footwear, hats, bags, and accessories. When it comes to these products Nike is generally at the top of the list in quality and customer demand. Nike takes great pride in satisfying their customers and only puts out the very best products in every category. This reflects in their choices of sponsorships as Nike endorses the top players in the game of tennis with Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Maria Sharapova, and Serena Williams. These players use a combination of Nike products to stay comfortable while performing at their best.
Roger Federer’s shoe of choice is the Men’s Zoom Vapor 9 Tour. Featuring new Adaptive Fit technology and a running inspired design, the Nike Men's Zoom Vapor 9 Tour is equipped with the latest technologies designed to provide optimal lightweight performance. Nike also offers many technologies within their clothing line. The Dri-Fit technology actually pulls sweat to the outside of the clothing to keep its user drier and more comfortable. Nike clothing technologies enhance a player’s overall comfort level and are designed to deal with sweat better than any other tennis apparel.
Being a leader in the sports industry has propelled Nike to the top of the tennis industry and has created standards that far exceed others. Nike continues to produce the best in tennis apparel, footwear, and accessories. When it comes to playing with style and performing at your best, Nike is the way to go!
