In a career spanning the amateur and Open eras, Billie Jean King, an American, won 67 pro and 37 amateur singles titles, and 101 pro doubles titles. At age 11, she bought her first tennis racquet with money saved from odd jobs. In 1973 she spearheaded the creation of the Women's Tennis Association. She also founded the Women's Sports Foundation in 1974 to increase opportunities for female participation in sports. She continues to commentate and serve tennis in a number of capacities. Some of her hobbies include ballet and movies. Her brother, Randy was a Major League Baseball pitcher for 13 years, and she was inducted into the Tennis Hall of Fame in 1987.
