Enjoys fishing, soccer and hockey...Considers clay and rebound ace (hard) his favorite surfaces and strength is his quickness.
In 2009 the top Russian captured his 15th ATP World Tour title in Hamburg in July, extending his streak of winning at least one title for seven consecutive years... Advanced to the QFs at Roland Garros for fourth time in five years, losing to eventual finalist Robin Soderling…in October, he earned his third title of the year, the first of his career in Asia in Kuala Lumpur as he beat Spaniard Fernando Verdasco in straight sets.
