Friday, January 11, 2013 Head Graphene (and Novak's Secret Weapon) is Here!

Head Graphene Novak Djokovic

After months of suspense, Head has finally released its updated Speed, Instinct, and Prestige racquets. With their star brand ambassadors, Novak Djokovic and Maria Sharapova, taking the court with redesigned frames at the Australian Open next week, the timing is absolutely perfect. Plus, it turns out Head’s seemingly too-good-to-be-true new technology, Graphene, really is worthy of all the hype.

When Novak Djokovic knocked down a fence with his groundstrokes in the “Secret Weapon” video released in October (right), we inferred one thing about the new Head models: they would have more power. In essence, that is what Graphene technology provides, though the benefit is much greater than added power alone.

Graphene is the strongest and lightest material in the world (impressive!), allowing Head engineers to use it in the racquet shaft and distribute weight elsewhere (hence their new slogan, Shifting the Balance of Power). Added weight in the grip and head makes it possible for the racquets to provide both maneuverability and stability without sacrificing pop. Djokovic’s new YouTek Graphene Speed Pro and Sharapova’s new YouTek Graphene Instinct MP are bound to be top sellers (you’ll love the new blue paint job on the Instinct), but the redesign covers 10 new models total. Stay tuned for another blog detailing all of these refreshingly innovative frames.

Head recently announced record-breaking revenues in 2012. With the release of Graphene technology, odds are good that 2013 will, deservedly, follow suit. To try out a YouTek Graphene racquet, make sure to check out the Tennis Express Demo Program.
