Oversize racquets have not been in vogue for a little while, as Mid-plus’s have been all the rage in the last few years. After giving Head’s YouTek Radical Oversize a swing, I might be inclined to re-join those in the “oversize matters” debate.

 

Like its smaller cousin the Head YouTek Radical MP, the OS sacrifices none of the playability features that made the OS such a manueverable frame, and only adds to the reputation of the Radical line with a bit of an upgrade in power.

 

Getting this racquet through the hitting zone is pure nirvana on a tennis court. The light weight of the frame (10.6 ounces unstrung) makes it easy to wield, but yet gives up none of the firmness or stiffness you’d expect from such a feathery frame.

 

Like most of those in the Radical line, this is a great spin stick. Healthy doses of top were plentiful from the backcourt, but this racquet really excelled in feel categories like slices, stab returns, angled volleys, hard crosscourt angles, and topspin or slice lobs. This racquet is so much fun, that even a bread-and-butter baseliner is bound to get experimental with the plethora of feel options this racquet affords.

 

This racquet is truly a “one-size fits all”, as virtually any style could take this one to court and find a way to manipulate it to their favor. Power baseliners or serve ad volleyers might want to add a bit of weight to the frame for a bit more punching power.
