Tuesday, November 13, 2012 Nike Flame Pack: Which Shoe is for You?

Including three of the top men’s shoes in tennis, the Flame Pack features a sizzling graphic design that pays homage to Nike’s “burning ball” logo of 1992. This logo first appeared on Andre Agassi’s Air Tech Challenge 4’s. The fiery design is said by Nike to represent the type of on-court play the brand stands for: fast, furious, and unapologetic. The 20th anniversary of Nike’s bold design brings us updates to the Courtballistec 4.3, Zoom Breathe 2k12, and the Zoom Vapor 9 Tour. This collection is limited edition and exclusive of these three shoes. So, which one is right for your game?

Zoom Vapor 9 Tour: lightweight breathability and a foot-hugging fit

We already know Roger Federer’s vote goes to the Zoom Vapor 9 Tour. Inspired by the aerodynamic design of running shoes, the Vapor 9 is extremely lightweight and breathable. Adaptive Fit technology promises a glove-like custom fit, using soft strips of material—Nike calls them fingers—that wrap from the bottom of the arch to the laces. An excess of mesh makes the Vapor 9 the frontrunner in the ventilation department. Lunarlon cushioning provides a springy, responsive step that’s 30% lighter than traditional midsole material.

Air Max Courtballistec 4.3: guaranteed durability and long-lasting support

Rafael Nadal’s shoe of choice brings home the goods for the player who’s tough on their shoes. Of the three, this is the only option complete with a 6-month outsole warranty. The support and durability doesn’t stop at the outsole. A mainly rubber upper with Drag-On X extending over the toe and front of the shoe ensures an extremely stable ride. Another feature that is not shared by the Vapor 9 and the Zoom Breathe 2K12 is the presence of a Max Air unit, an air capsule designed for impact protection.

Zoom Breathe 2K12: breathable support and lightweight flexibility

Trusted by Juan Martin Del Potro, the Zoom Breathe 2K12 offers the best of both worlds when it comes to stability and flexibility. Thanks to a mesh upper with Drag-On X open-form overlays, this shoe delivers both ventilation and support. The Zoom Breathe 2K12 features an upper with slightly less mesh and more rubber when compared to the Vapor 9, promising flexibility without sacrificing support. Like the Vapor 9, a Lunarlon cushioning system is in place for lightweight, responsive cushioning.
