WILSON BLX Pro Staff 90 Tennis Racquet

Racquet is great. Everything I expected. Plays with power and the right amount of control.

I have been using this type of racquet for about six months now. I am a NTRP 4.0 player, so the racquet would be more effective in the hands of a more skilled player. The pros of this racquet is the solid feel when you make good contact, it has a good mix of power and control, and I am able to generate enough spin to hit good drop shots and slices. The cons of the racquet are that it is a little heavy and the sweet spot is smaller than any other racquet I have used, causing some spectacular mishits at times. Overall, this is a very playable racquet, and would be a very effective weapon for any player with intermediate to advanced skills.

I bought my Dunlop MaxPly about 1974 and played with the original strings on it until 2011. I didnt play everyday but had many hundreds of hours on the original string and racquet. When the original string broke, Tennis Express restrung my wooden racquet. Those strings lasted about 9 months. Then Tennis Express strung my wooden racquet a second time. This time the strings help but the wooden racquet finally split at the frame. I was devastated! Now I had to enter the 21st century and get a graphite racquet. The closest and only racquet to my wooden was the Wilson BLX Pro Staff Six.One 90. It was the heaviest racquet with the smallest head made. I still dont like it as much as my wooden racquet but Im getting used to it. Ive play about 8 hours with it now and Im beginning to understand its strengths and weaknesses. My overhead slams are better but my ground strokes arent quite as effective. My backhand seems slightly better with my new Wilson racquet and there is more spin.

The current iteration of the stick originally used by Pete Sampras is not much different from the racquet made 20 years ago. It is heavy, stiff, with a small head - and a smaller sweet spot - and mostly unforgiving. But once in a while, a down-the-line backhand presents itself in perfect geometric beauty. Once in a while, a second ace would turn suddenly into an ace. And, even rarer, once in a while, while caught half-way on your way to the net, an unbelievable, Roger-like touch would lead the ball to the other side of the net, ever so softly. Only one racquet can do all that - and that is the Wilson Pro-Staff 90. So the trade-off is yours to pick. I gave it four stars b/c Im not half the player this racquet could utilize. Tennis express service was, as usual, impeccable. One of the best on-line stores out there.

I love my new racket, even though I am getting used to it I can feel that my game play has changed dramatically. From my serves to my forehands being better, I enjoy my new racket.

This isnt my first racket but it is my first racket from Tennis Express and I must admit Ive fallen in love with this racket. Being a huge Roger Federer fan I just had to get my hands on his weapon of choice. The weight of the racket isnt too much for me to handle and I love the control and pace I get with the racket. My serves and volleys have improved considerably. My one-handed backhand also improved so well that my topspin shots are nearly un-returnable. Overall, Im very pleased with the Wilson BLX Pro Staff Six.One 90.

I have been teaching for more than 12 yrs and been through a lot of racquets of different brands and model.Each time I would switch to a different one, theres always a feeling that something could have been better or something is missing until I demoed this Pro staff six one 90 for about two weeks. The guys at Tennis express were kind enough to extend an extra week for me. It started out Ok, just OK but since Im playing almost everyday,and as the days wore on I could feel my strokes,speed,stability on the hit,power on the serve just kept improving and the slices were just right everytime. Now after playing with it for more than a month I could say that at last Wilson made one just right for me. Its the same feeling I have when I switch from a dialup to DSL. You just wont switch back. To anyone who can handle a 12oz racquet, I would highly recommend that you give this a try for at least a full week of playing average 2 hrs a day.

I am a player and used to heavy small rackets but this frame feels too muted, awkward and sweet spot itoo small. I much prefer KFactor KTour with 93 head size or Yonex Vcore 89 which is slightly smaller but has bigger sweet spot, better control and feel. Even the old Sampras 85sq in racket was much better.

I love this racket! This is the fourth generation of Pro staffs that I have used over the past 20 years and this one is exactly what you should expect from a players racket - absolute control and great feel. You are rewarded well when you strike the ball cleanly. volleys are crisp and serves are a treat. And although this racket does a better job than the previous Pro staffs when it comes to dampening negative feedback, you will still be punished for bad form. I have tried to switch over to other rackets several times over the past decade. My thought was that I am in my mid 40s so I should try a racket that is lighter with more power and more forgiving as you get older you are less resilient. But after trying several others, I have come running back to the Pro staff. The reality is if you want to enjoy this racket, you have to have good form and the racket will subtly remind you when you dont.

If you are more of a control/feel/skill type player, in contrast to a power game, this racquet is a must have. Obviously you cant have everything, so the downside is that you do have to create most of your own power with this racquet. The sweetspot on this racquet is also smaller than most racquets these days, however, once you get into a rythym there is no better feeling in tennis then when you hit the sweetspot on this racquet.

I am very happy with my racquet. The spin that you can place on the ball is great.

I am a player who loves the weight on the racket. I feel this racket has a better feel through the ball than the BLX did before. Overall Im very pleased with the racket. I will probably have to get another.

I switched from the Six.One Tour 90 BLX to this. I had Wilson Hollow Core strings at 58 lbs tension. With the Pro Staff 90 I selected Babolot Pro Hurrican Tour 16g strings at 52 lbs of tension. Day 1 - I was overhitting everything. Day 2 - Used the lower string tension to my advantage to create a deeper one handed backhand. With my forehand, if the ball is above my waist I tend to jump up into the air and smash the shotit sounds weird but it is as fast if not faster than my serve, and very accurate. I found using this racquet gives me even more power than I had in my previous one. Volleys- more touch. Overheads- more pop. Serve- more pop & spin.
