Scottish-born Andy Murray may have been born with a bipartite patella, but that did not stop him from becoming an exceptional athlete. At age 15 he declined an invitation to follow in his grandfather’s footsteps and train for a career in football, choosing instead to focus on his tennis game. In 2005 he turned pro and received a wildcard at Wimbledon, going in ranked 374th in the world but making it to the 3rd round – the only Scotsman to do so in the open era. Just one year later, Murray won the SAP Open, his first ATP title. At age 25, he captured his first big trophies, the 2012 Olympic Singles Gold Medal, and the 2012 US Open Men's Singles title. In 2013, he thrilled his home crowd by winning Wimbledon and dazzled the crowd with an emotional speech following the trophy presentation. He married long time girlfriend Kim Sears in 2015 and now has three children, Sophia, Edie and Teddy. He's a Global Ambassador for UNICEF, United for Wildlife, Malaria No More and WWF. In 2019 he was knighted by Prince Charles and joins Sir Norman Brookes as the only tennis players to ever be knighted.
