Description
The ultimate in durability and spin, Ashaway Kevlar 16g Reel combines aramid fibers with a textured, braided surface for increased bite on the ball. Designed for chronic string breakers seeking durability above all else, this string is most often used in hybrid applications along with a synthetic gut cross in order to keep the stiffness at a reasonable level. The stiffest type of string available, Kevlar also provides the most solid feeling at impact. But, in order to gain the incredible durability offered, the sweet spot size and elasticity are decreased. Our testers felt that this string was best suited to players hitting with extreme pace and topspin who were willing to sacrifice feel and comfort for durability.

I bought the ashawy Kevlar string because I was tired of replacing my strings every 3-4 hours of play. I would consider myself to be a level 3-3.5 player and I hit with a lot of power and topspin. Id used the prince polyester string for a long time, I even tried some of the aluminum reinforced polyester strings they had but I continually broke my mains. My first impression of the Kevlar was that it feels almost cloth like, and when stringing my mains with it crosses are strung with prince tournament nylon it really suprised me how little it stretches, almost made stringing a little tricky just because its so stiff. On the court, it started out very stiff, but after about 2 hours of play it began to loosen up a bit and Im suprised how good its feeling now 8-10 hours in. It plays very well, and adds some pop to my topspin. Broken in, it has good feel and Ive been very impressed with its durability. I havent had any soreness associated with it, but would not recommend using it in both cro

The string is very durable when used as a Hybrid. I used it in the mains at 57# and used Genesis Black Magic for crosses at 60#. It gives you great directional control and spin. The one area I felt a loss on was feel, but Im mostly a power player so thats not as important to me on a regular basis. As long as you’re not prone to shoulder injuries or Tennis Elbow its a great string for power play. I feel out of all the other Kevlar’s this one feels softer because of it being braided. I probably would use the 18g on a tight string pattern and stick with the 16g for open patterns.
