Stefan Edberg was a force to be reckoned with on the tennis court. He’s widely considered to be one of the best of his era, winning 6 Grand Slam singles titles, and 3 Grand Slam doubles titles between 1985 and 1996. Other notable accomplishments include winning the Masters Grand Prix in singles in 1989, as well as doubles in 1985 and 1986. He was also a part of the Swedish Davis Cup-winning team 4 times. Among many other wins, he even coached Roger Federer for 2 years through 2014 and 2015. To honor his hall-of-fame career, adidas is turning back the clock to 90s-era tennis with their new Edberg Collection. The collection features two unique shoes, as well as some retro apparel you won’t want to miss.
Adidas Torsion Comp
This lifestyle shoe is an obvious callback to the former world #1’s on-court footwear. Inspired by 90s tennis innovations, the new Torsion Comp fuses heritage technologies with vintage sports style. Billed as “back from the archives”, it features perforated leather and synthetics in the upper, a comfortable EVA midsole, and the original Torsion bar.
Adidas Edberg Ubersonic 3
The Edberg Ubersonic 3 features a retro leather upper that gives a clear nod to the Torsion Comp. The rest of the shoe is best described as a standard Adizero Ubersonic 3. This means you’ll still find a stretch mesh bootie, Sprintframe construction, and ADIWEAR 6 outsole. In all, you can expect lightweight, dynamic performance from this crazy combination of new and old.
Adidas Throwback Apparel
If the two shoes weren’t enough, adidas is also releasing some retro apparel. The Men’s Essentials 3-Stripes TT Tricot Jacket in Active Gold is made with a cotton/polyester blend, and classic tricot fabric. The Men’s Category Limited Edition Tennis Tee in Cream White features ClimaLite technology to keep you cool, and is made with a cotton/polyester blend. Lastly, the Men’s Limited Edition Tennis Polo in Black and Semi Solar Green celebrates the brand’s lengthy history with a modern design. It also features ClimaLite technology, and is made with 100% recycled polyester pique.
