The shoe New Balance built for the big-serving Milos Raonic has been updated with Fresh Foam X for 2021. But this is just one part of the shoe that had been upgraded.
“The (Men’s) New Balance FF Lav v2 tennis shoe keeps the impressive stability and durability of the first Lav, but they massively upgraded the interior cushioning with FreshFoamX and a much more plush ankle collar design. The shoe is much easier to get on and off because of the more traditional tongue design, but it keeps the heel and ankle locked in so you can change direction with confidence, and get off the mark quickly. While the first Lav was an excellent performance shoe for stability and quickness, It left me wanting a bit more cushioning, especially in the midsole and forefoot area. Enter Fresh FoamX! V2 feels much more substantial as far as cushioning goes, and it doesn’t seem to make the shoe much heavier at all. While some loved NB’s Knit Bootie construction of the previous version, v2’s more traditional tongue design is easier to get on and off and can fit a greater variety of foot shapes. V2 locks the heel and ankle in place more securely thanks to the more-cushioned ankle collar and higher external heel counter.”
“I have tried everything from Nike Cage/Vapor to ASICS resolution/solutions. I have to say I’m very surprised with the amount of comfort and stability with the Lav v2. At first glance, the shoe looks very well built with quality material. In between rallies, it offers great stability and feels lighter than I expected. Importantly, this shoe offers perfect grip when sliding to short balls.
Con: if you are wearing a low cut or anything shorter, your ankles could scrape against the side padding.
Probably most comfortable with quarter or crew socks.”
“While it wasn’t love at first sight, the (Women’s) New Balance Lav2 was a great fit from the get-go. The all-white exterior was a little unassuming, but man, these shoes have game. Some of my favorite parts about this shoe were how the tongue was sewn into the shoe. It forced it to stay in place and my shoes stayed tied throughout two-three set matches of vigorous doubles play. I also liked the slightly longer tongue and additional eyelets for the laces. I felt my ankles were well supported and the grip was great. I’m a fan of the fresh foam. I like too that the insert is super cushy and easy to remove. This is particularly helpful if your feet produce extra moisture.
My only pet peeve is the uneven design across the toe box. Looks aside, this is a fantastic shoe that I would definitely recommend.”
“I loved the comfort throughout the midsole and the increased padding under the arch and heel. The toebox feels a little wider for a more natural fit. The traditional tongue provides the foot with plenty of security without being too tight. My one drawback is the Lav 2 felt stiffer at first and took a little while to break in.”
