In 1995 Agassi reached no.1 for 30 weeks and had a 72-10 record. But two years later, his career reached an all-time low with his rank slipping to 141 due to a recurrent wrist affecting his game. Agassi focused on fitness and returned to the top 10, one of the highest jumps in history in one season. He finished in the top 10 for the sixteenth time in 2005. In 2006 he suffered from severe injuries that resulted in his withdrawal from the clay season all together. During his return at Wimbledon, he announced that he would retire at the end of the U.S. open. After losing in the third round to 112th seed Benjamin Becker, he was gifted by the crowd an eight minute ovation and salute to his long, victorious career.
