Domi or Dominator, started playing tennis at age 6, but really grew up on the tennis court. His parents Wolfgang and Karin, are both professional tennis coaches who coach fellow Austrian players Dennis Novak and Sebastian Ofner. As a junior, Thiem was ranked world No. 2 reaching the 2011 French Open Boys' final, and winning the 2011 Orange Bowl. In 2011, at the age of 18, the rising talent entered his first pro-level tournament after earning a wildcard into Generali Open in Kitzbühel. As a professional, he's made it to the finals at the 2018 and 2019 French Open, losing to Rafael Nadal on both occasions. In 2019, he beat Roger Federer to win his first ATP Masters 1000 title at Indian Wells. He continues to be on the rise as the ATP's next young grand slam star. Thiem's idols growing up were Stefan Koubek and Jurgen Melzer. He's a big football fan and enjoys watching Chelsea FC play. He also enjoys ski jump competitions and founded his own football club called TFC Matzendorf.
