David Nalbandian turned professional in 2000 at the age of 18. He finished as the no. 1 Argentine and South American in 2002 for the first time in his career, winning 2 ATP titles and reaching the Wimbledon final, where he set a record and stunned the tennis world by becoming the first man to reach the final on his debut. His run to the 2002 Wimbledon final was even more remarkable considering that it was his first ever pro tournament on grass. He continued to climb his way up the ranks of professional tennis reaching the semifinals of the Australian Open in 2006, the semifinals of French Open in 2004 & 2006, and the semifinals of the US Open in 2003. During his career he won 11 singles titles, including the Tennis Masters Cup in 2005 and two Masters 1000 tournaments. He was a member of the Argentinian Davis Cup team who reached the finals of the World Group in 2006, 2008 and 2011. Since his retirement in 2013, Nalbandian has taken up the sport of rally racing, and has competed in Rally Argentina.
