HEAD YOUTEK Speed MP 16X19 Racquet Review

buy this racquet demo this racquet

The Youtek Speed MP 16x19 has a large sweet spot and coupled with the open 16/19 string pattern generating spin was easy. I had no worries keeping the ball in play even when going for big groundstrokes. Whether going for touch and placement or just going for a winner the Speed MP responded well to all and the extra weight (11.8 oz / 335g) really helps from the baseline. Head claims the d3o material is "smart" and softens the feel when touch is needed and stiffens up when more power is needed like groundstrokes. Like the other Youtek Speed frames I did find that the fame stiffened up on long fast swings and did get “softer” on touch shots.

Groundstrokes
The extra weight (11.8oz) and slightly longer length (27.2 in) help provide good control and power from both sides of the ball. The open 16 x 19 string pattern provides good access to spin but overall from the baseline I found a large sweet spot and excellent control. No surprises, I was able to place the ball and swing away as needed with excellent power when I needed it. The d3o / YOUTEK technology also helps on touch shots as you do feel the frame getting soft on touch shots and stiffer as you swing away.

Volleys
Overall good mobility at the net with excellent pop, the extra weight is noticed at the net when getting the fame around on reaction volleys - it does take effort. But once you do make contact the weight and large sweet spot make for easy winners and great power. Touch shots also excellent as the 22mm beam and d3o technology allows for great feel. For sure a strong all court player would love the feel and balance.

Overall
The Speed MP is a great frame for all court players and allowed me to hit from all areas of the court well – very balanced overall with excellent spin and good power added with very good touch and response on softer shots. It also has the new square (Wilson/Prince style) grip instead of the rectangular grip found on most Head racquets so for regular Head users this is an adjustment. The Speed MP is a solid hit and well worth a demo for the 4.0+ player or if you have long fast ground strokes.
