|It isn't every day that a professional athlete manages to break records, make history, and have several successful business ventures - but Venus Williams has never really been a fan of the every day. As she says herself, "I'm this overachiever type, I'll just work and work and I'll just do it over and over and over again." After becoming the first African-American woman to become the world number 1 in February of 2002, Venus Williams continued to play phenomenal tennis, fight for equal pay for women, start an interior design company, earn a degree in fashion design, and overcome a debilitating autoimmune disease, Sjögren's syndrome. Now, her line of apparel, EleVen, is taking the tennis world by storm, with its fun, funky pieces that combine classic styling with creative detail to make truly one of a kind looks.|
|The clothes in the EleVen collection are designed by Venus Williams herself, and are a reflection of her personality. Of her inspiration, she says, "My style is kind of eclectic and I don't like to do the same thing over and over and over again. I like to have fun and explore myself so you won't see the same design" season to season. Her inventiveness can be seen in the looks currently in the line up, which range from simple cotton T-shirts with swirling graphics to geometric prints in bright colors. And, because Venus is a tennis player herself, all of her designs are field-tested - meaning they're worn on court before they're sold, and they often make appearances in Grand Slams.|
Venus Williams knows what it takes to succeed, be it in sports, fashion, or anything else - hard work and determination, a little elbow grease - as she says, "Life is challenging, but I'm always up for a challenge."
