Dr. Walter Bartoli, her father, introduced Marion to tennis at age 6 developing the Monica Seles style game after watching the 1992 French Open Women's Singles final. Her first singles success came in 2006 when she captured her first WTA Singles title in Auckland and climbed into the Top-20 rankings. In 2007 she reached her first Grand Slam final falling to champion Venus Williams. Eventually in 2013 she was able to capture her first Grand Slam Singles title at Wimbledon in 2013. She also won 8 WTA Singles titles and 3 Doubles titles over her career. In 2013 she retired from the sport and occasionally took on some commentator roles during the French Open. She has two cats and her favorite movies are Gladiator and A Beautiful Mind. She enjoys jet skiing, volleyball, and painting as hobbies, but her favorite sport is soccer. She has now taken over duties as Jelena Ostapenko's coach.
