Qiang started playing tennis at age 9. The same year, she became the promotion player for the Tianjin National Tennis Center and for two years consecutively (2006-2007), she won the Junior's Tennis Championship in China. She officially started touring the ITF Women's Circuit in Japan as of 2007. In 2018 she had a breakout year winning the gold medal in singles at the Asian Games, and capturing two WTA singles titles in Jiangxi and Guangzhou. in 2019 she continued her success reaching the Women's Singles Quarterfinals at the US Open, and a WTA ranking of no. 12 in the world becoming the second-highest ranked Chinese singles player in history. Her tennis idol growing up was Steffi Graf, her favorite surface is hard court, and her favorite tournament is the US Open.
