Sam Austin Querrey is not the only athlete in his family. His father, Mike, was drafted by the Detroit Tigers but chose to play college baseball instead and became a mortgage banker. Sam was introduced to the sport by his mom when he was 4 years old. On the junior circuit, he reached the Quarterfinals at the 2004 Junior US Open and 2005 Junior French Open. That same year he also won back-to-back junior hard court titles at the USTA Spring Championships and Easter Bowl. Sam was offered a full scholarship to play at the University of Southern California, but turned it down to go pro. His most notable moments on the ATP tour came at Wimbledon when he reached the 2016 Men's Singles Quarterfinals beating Novak Djokovic and 2017 Men's Singles Semifinals defeating Andy Murray. He's also reached the Men's Singles Quarterfinals at the 2017 US Open and 2019 Wimbledon Championships. Querrey prefers playing on hard courts and considers his serve and forehand his strengths. In his downtime, he plays basketball, table tennis and golf. In 2018 he married his wife Abby in California.
