Steve Johnson, nicknamed “Stevie”, began playing tennis at age 2, using balloons and beach balls. His father, Steve, was a tennis coach and he credits his father with his success in tennis before passing away in May 2017. “He taught me pretty much everything I know. Since I can remember, it’s always been him and me out there hitting tennis balls, having a blast.” Growing up, he idolized Pete Sampras and Andre Agassi. He attended The University of Southern California from 2009-2012, sweeping NCAA Team titles in all 4 seasons and winning 2 NCAA Singles titles. He finished 2011 and 2012 as the No. 1 college tennis player and ended college career with 72 straight singles wins. On the pro tour he saw much success in 2016, winning his first ATP Singles title in Nottingham, first ATP Doubles title in Geneva with partner Sam Querrey, a Bronze medal in Doubles at the Rio Olympics, and reached the 4th round at Wimbledon. He also won back-to-back titles in Houston 2017-18, becoming the first repeat champion since Roddick in 2001-02. In 2018 he married his wife, Kendall, and has three dogs, Bruno, Daisy, and Chubbs.
