Roger Federer has moved on from the Pro Staff 90 he helped make famous, debuting the Wilson Pro Staff RF 97 Autograph frame in its place. Featuring a larger head size and more open string pattern (16x19) for added pop, forgiveness and spin potential, this racquet promises enhanced performance along with the pure playability we've come to expect from Pro Staff models.
You'll also enjoy the sleek new Pro Staff cosmetics and the classic leather grip. The extreme 12-point head light balance will improve maneuverability, but the frame is best suited for experienced players who are capable of handling the hefty 12.5 ounces (strung) of braided graphite and kevlar. The Wilson Pro Staff RF 97 is the first racquet in Wilson's new "Attacker Player" segment, making it perfect for those seeking exceptional feel and performance.
This racquet is Sony Smart Tennis Sensor compatible with the addition of the Pro Staff Tennis Butt Cap. Please indicate in the comment section of your order if you'd like a compatible butt cap included with your order.

Monster of a Racquet
I had a chance to demo this stick a bit early. I am a 4.5 player and a teaching pro at a nearby facility. I originally use a blade 93. Off of the baseline the racquet really does a lot of the work for you, but timing becomes an issue due to the mass of the stick. Shots on the run were probably the most difficult from the baseline due to how difficult it was to accelerate. Returns were just as difficult because the racquet just felt too sluggish coming across the body. Serving with the RF stick was amazing though. The amount of spin and power I could generate was unbelievable. The mass of the racquet just falls right through the court and cuts through the air. I felt like I could put serves on a dime. Volleys were also extremely good. The weight of the stick could really counter punch heavy balls back deep in to the court. Some of the best stability and control for a racquet up at the net that Ive felt for some time. Overall, the highest points of the RF is serving and volleying.
wilson pro staff RF 97 tennis racquet
First of all, let me say that i NEVER write reviews but I HAD TO for this one! I am a 5.5 level player and above. Just giving you my level so you know that i have some knowledge about tennis equipments. I have played tennis for 35 years!! I have tried hundreds of different racquets. This one is PHENOMENAL!!!!! I dont think that there is one particular stroke that i dont like this racquet for so i am not going to go thru each stroke. It is AMAZING on ALL STROKES!!
Do not be frightened by the weight. I doesnt even feel heavy when you swing this racquet because of the 12 pts headlights. You MUST have the weight in the racquet to take full advantage of this racquet. Because of the weight, the racquet does all the work by itself. You just need to have a proper full swing. The weight also helps making this racquet VERY stable. Great plowthru. Unbelievable control but also with awsome power when you have proper strokes. This is THE BEST racquet that i have ever played with in my 35 years.
Good Plush Feel
The racket felt great, awesome feel, the downside is the stiffness. In other words, the control is not as great, its hard to maneuver the racket around the court.
Going back to the Kevlar was a great move. The racquet is a unique combination of stability and feel.
This racquet is everything I expected and then some. I absolutely love the power and control you get from this. I dont recommend this raquet for beginner players, its a little heafty compared to others but if your like me and like a little extra weight then this is for you. im no pro or anything but as soon as I hit some balls around with it I knew I wasnt changing back.
Wilson Federer Autograph 97 racquet
I have played with this racquet for about 30 hours.I strung it at 58lbs with Black Widow 17 ga. My prior racquet was the BLX Six One 95. The Autograph 97 is far more sophisticated and takes the best of the Pro Staff classic, combines it with BLX thinking, and a very thorough development to deliver remarkable stability in the head, pronounced directional control and precision on all strokes, including serves, interesting balance that allows for an acceptable mobility while providing a kind of concrete wall at volleys. This racquet likes good head speed and delivers deep biting top spin. my opponents tell me that I have never hit so many base lines! This racquet has no patience for late take backs on ground strokes. I am now ordering two more.

The rf97 is great racket a lot of power

Pro Staff RF 97 Autograph Review
Roger Federers new racket feels phenomenal. With the 97 sq. in. head size I was able to hit the ball in a forgiving sweet spot. I loved this racket since I am used to hitting with a heavier type of racket but for some players they might need to adjust since the weight being 12.0 oz. can affect the swing speed of a player. Groundstrokes are excellent, I was able to hit with power and control on both my backhands and forehands. This racket allowed me to have more control and power on my serves as well. On volleys, due to the weight, it might be a little difficult AT FIRST but in time a player just gets used to it. There is hardly any vibration whenever I strike the ball so it is very stable and comfortable in the hand. The 16x19 string pattern gave pop and spin on the ball making my game jump to the next level. Thank you tennis express for delivering an amazing tool for the sport in tennis!
This racket is a game changer. As I get older my game has slowed down but the new RF97 has sped up my game. More power/more control/more spin. Digging out low forehands and backhands is a breeze with this solid frame. Serving is a dream. I can swing late and still hit a forceful shot with confidence. Im glad Wilson and Roger did it right and did not rush it. Im so glad I pre-ordered this racket and have been able to hit with it for going on 6 weeks.
Pro Staff RF97 Tennis Racquet
The RF97 Pro Staff is just what I expected. I played with the Pro Staff for 25-30 years but switched to other frames when the older Pro Staff frame became too wide. The other frames had good power but I never felt like I had the control that the Pro Staff has. The overall weight of the RF97 helps carry the ground strokes as well as the volleys for heavier, deeper shots without the loss of power that you get with lighter frames. At the same time, the headlight frame allows faster movement when producing serves, topspin, or volleys. Conclusion: great versatile frame for the all court player. Glad to be back with my new RF97 Pro Staff.

My game got BETTERER!
I was using the Wilson 6.1 95 11.7 oz with a protective tape on top before I picked up the RF97 the night before i played a tournament. And from the very first ball i hit, i feel very comfortable with it. At 97, it felt a lot bigger than my 95. At 12 oz, it felt a little lighter than my 11.7 oz plus the protective tape although everybody that touched it said its very heavy. This is a perfect racquet for all around play. It will do what you want it to do. It will deliver what you ask for. Great performance overall. I love it although i wish they make an 18 x 20 string patter. My advice Dont be afraid of the weight, give it a try. Im 58, 160 lbs. Oh, my tournament We lost a tight second round, 7-6, 6-7, 8-10. My partner was not using the RF97, you know what i mean. Im getting my back up racquet ASAP. Thank you Wilson and Federerer for making my game BETTERERER!!!
Love the racquet and the service. Just what I wanted. Thanks
Pro Staff RF 97 Racquet
I played with the Pro Staff 6.1 for many years, then switched to a bigger Prince racquet to compensate for declining quickness and strength. The switch was OK but my experience with the new Federer has been delightful. I now have the weight back, for feel, and a bigger head and sweet spot. It has taken me a little adjustment because it is more forgiving than the 6.1 and the swing weight takes a little getting used to. However, I would definitely recommend for any all-court player. Power from the baseline and serving and feel at the net and transition.

Terrific Racquet. Great Feel . It feels more solid than
other racquets . Great power without the springy feel
of other powerful racquets.
One aspect I didnt particularly care for about this racquet was the weight. I thought it was a bit too heavy for my liking, and it threw off my timing a fair amount. Granted, I am on the recovery from injury, and this racquet perhaps wasnt the best choice to come back to the game with. Weight aside, I enjoyed playing with the racquet.
RF 97 - One Seriously Stable Stick
The Pro Staff RF 97 is one stable racket, probably the most stable racket I have tried in my 30 years of playing and teaching. Im a previous user of the Tour 90s and the more recent Six One 95S. After playing with the RF 97 for about a month its easy to understand how Federer is enjoying a new lease on life.
This stick is great for serves, and everything else as well. If you can manage the heft well over 12 ounces it is certainly a racket to consider for any competitive player who feels they might be losing a little steam on their shots. Great specs, amazing stability, plenty of power and spin, with good feel as well.
Pro Staff RF 97 Autograph
I was very excited to try out Federers new racquet. It is a little heavier than Im used to, but the headlight balance helped balance that out while I was playing. It was very stable on all of my shots and had great plow through. I really felt like I was in charge of the ball and the ball wasnt dictating what my racquet did like when I use lighter frames. Although the swing weight felt manageable, it still felt a little slow on my kick serve and I couldnt get the spin I was used to. The lack of maneuverability, however, was balanced with the increased forgiveness of the 97 inch head size which I really enjoyed as I was getting used to the frame. Overall I loved this frame and it is definitely one of my favorite frames Ive ever hit with.
This is my first adventure into using a Wilson racquet... Having come over from Babolat. All I can say is excellent... My sister who is a tennis pro recommened that I change to Wilson and I figure why not go all the way and try/get the RF97.
Im so glad I did! The feel and control I have with this racquet over my past ones has much helped to improve my game. Ground strokes are great and my volleys at the net have much improved.
It did take some time to get use to this racquets weight. It is a bit more on the heavier side than my past racquets but I knew that going in. You definatly have to take your time and adjust your game when playing this racquet it does not come around as fast as something that is on the lighter side.
Overall I like this racquet very much and expect to be using it for years to come. I have three of them now :.
Good racquet, needs time to adjust
I bought this racquet in December and really havent played too much with it, but i demoed it a few times and loved the feel. I finally got my serve back which was nice and has a lot more pop and feel. My second serve particularly got better I was using the K-faktor 90 before this. The ground strokes are very different but once you find your swing again its great. It is a bit different from the smaller head stick, but much less effort and more top spin. Volleys are great, but again you can get lost in the sweet spot. All in all a good racquet but definitely need some time to adjust from a smaller head size.
I liked the racquet very much. It is a very heavy stick. Not easy to maneuver. But a strong and relaxed arm just firm enough to use the weight, with a good swing technique, can benefit a lot from it. It delivers excellent precision for groundstrokes and volleys. It doesn´t make it easy to hit on the run. It adds lots of pace to the ball. I feel that it vibrates more than I expected but not more than other wilsons. For me, the right adjustment is to string it with lower tensions and to use a dampener. Federer, in the other hand, uses very high tensions without dumpeners I do not recommend to follow Federer adjustments. Their not meant for human beings. Overall, it is a great racquet. I will keep it. But I´m going to continue to use my aero pro drives babolat for every day use. They are still more forgiven and much easier to maneuver and to add spin to the ball.
By far the best racket that I have ever played with! I have tried hundreds of rackets over the years, jumping back and forth from one to another. But the RF97 is different,i cant put it down! Playing with it is like not having to think that you have a racket in your hand, everything is simple and you just play. For me every shot has improved, the only thing that I notice is my shots are a little flatter with not as much spin. But this is because I am coming from playing with the Wilson Steam 99s. I am 64 with a couple rotator cuff surgeries and the weight of this is not an issue. In fact it is this weight that makes this stick so stable, accurate and powerful. Just prepare early relax and dont try to muscle it and have fun!
After years of searching for the ideal racket for my game, I finally found it! Vasillating between 90 and 95 sq in rackets, 97 is the sweet spot. Handsome design. Thank yiu Wilson and Tennis Express
Everything about this racquet is perfect. The weight and balance are the same as the old Federer racquets Making it an easy transition to the larger head size. But with the larger head comes a bigger sweet spot and more power. The racquet still has great feel and manuverability up at the net. Great frame!
This racquet is awesome. From the first time I picked it up, it felt like a samurai sword. Coming from the Babolat Pure Drive, the weight was a problem, at first. Soon though, everything just clicked. The weight essentially forces you to swing properly. Not gonna lie, it took a half dozen times playing to make the adjustment but Im happier with the way my game feels than ever before. Strung it with Luxilon Big Banger Power ALU at 51 lbs. Love the racquet and cant imagine playing with anything else! 4.0/4.5

This is the best one I ever play with
RF 97 autograph tennis rscket
Im 54 years old man, 55 tall , the racket is really heavy, but I like it, its take time ,so be patient ,it will work on youre stroke, I recommend to my friends
Pro Staff - Change has ups and downs
So, I purchased two of these racquets within a few months of each other and really like them note: not love them. Its a great racquet with good power but you definitely loose some control. The sweet spot is BIG and you can sometimes loose the ball feel on the strings. It is a great racquet for one handed back-hands, I switched from the k-factor 90 and found it much more forgiving. I do miss my smaller frame though on forehands, I get great depth and spin with this one, but miss the pin point accuracy of my old frame. The greatest difference is the serve, I still cant seem to get a consistent first serve, the bigger frame gives a good pop and great spin but I have to find it regularly. I do love the second serve kick this gives - watching the ball change direction after the bounce is always nice :. All in all good stick, you just need to really get in a lot of practice to really figure it out.
one of the best
i use a wilson six one 95 18x20. an di think that racquet hs a good everything. but this racquet blew my mind. the plush feeling of just awesome goodness. this is so precise and yet it has power and feel. the best prostaf i have used so far. must buy. i dont know how you will be dissapointed with this racquet unless your not strong enough to handle the weigh which is very substantial. train your wrist and you will be fine
