Yoshihito Nishioka is one of the leaders of Japanese tennis’ next generation. He began playing tennis at age 4 with his father, Norio, who's a tennis coach. In 2017, he notched impressive wins over tour veterans Tomas Berdych, Gilles Simon, and Ivo Karlovic gaining a spot in the top-60 ATP rankings. In 2018 he captured his first ATP Singles title in Shenzhen, China saving match points against Denis Shapovalov. He won the gold medal at the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, Korea just 3 days after 19th birthday. He defeated countryman and Kei Nishikori for the biggest win of his career en route to the 2019 ATP Masters 1000 Cincinnati Quarterfinal as a Qualifier. Nishioka's favorite surface is hard court and his favorite shot is his backhand. His idol growing up was Marcelo Rios and if he wasn’t a tennis player, he would be a professional football player. Outside of tennis, he enjoys playing video games and watching soccer.
