Johanna was born to Hungarian parents in Sydney, Australia, and moved to the UK when she was 14. She switched her sporting allegiance from Australia to Great Britain after she became a British citizen in May 2012. She was introduced to tennis at age 8 by her parents, and then started to play at an afterschool program. When she was 14, she attended the Sanchez Casal Academy in Barcelona for 15 months to train for tennis. She began to rise in the WTA rankings during the 2016 season when she reached the Women's Singles Semifinals at the Australian Open, the Women's Singles Quarterfinals at the Rio Olympics, and won her maiden WTA title at the Bank of West Classic at Stanford. To follow this up she won the 2017 Miami Open title, reached the 2017 Women's Singles Semifinals at Wimbledon, and reached the 2019 Women's Singles Semifinals at Roland Garros. Konta is an all-court player who's favorite shot is the serve. She speaks Hungarian as well as English, and her tennis idol was Steffi Graf growing up.
