Serena Jameka Williams (born September 26, 1981) turned pro in 1995 and has been a dominant force in tennis ever since. She plays doubles with her sister Venus, and is coached by her father Richard and her mother Oracene Price. Williams has devoted much of her time to charity, including opening two Secondary Schools in Kenya. She has also designed her own line of clothing, handbags and jewelry. Her favorite author is Maya Angelou, and she likes Mariah Carey's music, football, and movies. She ranks first in prize money among women tennis athletes and 3rd all-time among tennis athletes. In 2015, she became the first black female athlete to have a picture of herself on the cover of "Vogue", which she did for the April 2015 issue. In 2014 she launched Serena Ventures which gives opportunities to young entrepreneurs, and in 2016 she launched the Serena Williams Fund as well as the Williams Sisters Fund to create equity through education and assist victims of senseless violence. In 2017 she married Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian and gave birth to daughter Alexis Olympia Ohanian, Jr. She announced her retirement from tennis following her 2022 US Open run.
