New Balance Tennis
New Balance began in the early 1900's, and has grown to become a leading global athletic company. To ensure the best fitting, best performing shoes and apparel, New Balance focuses on improving their technology and production methods. Expect comfort in New Balance!Based in Boston, Massachusetts, New Balance was founded in 1906 as New Balance Arch Support Company. William J. Riley, a 33-year old immigrant from England had the desire to make shoes more comfortable through the use of arch technology. His first design, a flexible arch support was made with three points of support in the shape of a triangle. Rumor has it that this design idea was inspired by his chickens, who he noticed walked on three claws that provided perfect support. Soon after, this same principle would be implemented into the actual shoes and a new form of balance would be discovered.
Although they still made arch supports, everything changed in 1961 when the “Trackster” was created as the world’s first high performance running shoe. New Balance is one of only a few manufacturers to offer their footwear in a wide range of widths. This option allows customers to purchase shoes in sizes according to length and width, to get the ultimate comfortable shoe. To place emphasis on their philosophy, New Balance does not have titles for any individual shoe. Instead, every new model is just the previous model number plus one. Model numbers reflect the shoe’s stability, weight, and motion control.
One of New Balance’s most popular tennis shoes is the New Balance 1187. This tennis shoe provides the stability thanks to the S-Curve and the comfort from the Abzorb technology in the forefoot. This is the ideal choice of footwear for any player looking to play hard on the court, but take it easy on the feet. New balance continues to excel in the production and variation of athletic footwear while leading in innovation and creativity.
