James Blake was named rookie of the year for 2000 for World team tennis season. He gained the eyes of the tennis world by taking eventual champion Lleyton Hewitt to five sets in the US open in 2001. 2003 Blake reached the fourth-round of the Australian open having an up-and-down year. In 2004 Blake expierienced dreaful events starting with him breaking his neck by running into a net post during practice, his father past in July due to stomach cancer, and Blake developed shingles that temporarily paralyzed part of his face and weakened his vision. He then doubted he would return to his tennis career.

In summer 05' Blake recovered from his injuries and recieved a wildcard to the US open. he beat Rafael Nadal, Tommy Robredo, but lost in a five set match to Andre Agassi. In 2006 he lost to Tommy Robredo in thrid round. In the French open, he was the last american within the tournament but lost in third round to Gael Monfils. In Wimbledon he made it to the third round but lost to Max Mirnyi in five sets. In the US open, Blake made it to the quarterfinals only to be beat by defending champion Roger Federer. Blake finshed the year with a bang by reaching the finals of the Masters Cup only to lose again to Federer. In 2007, Blake had a dissapointing round of 16 lost to eventual finalist Fernando Gonzalez. Blake did not perform to expectations in the French open losing first round. Blake hopes to enter the US tennis Olypic team for 2008.
