Young initially came to prominence as a dominant junior player. He began playing at age 3 with mother, Illona, and father, Donald Sr., who are both tennis teaching professionals. In 2005 he became the youngest-ranked year end junior No. 1 player in the world winning the Australian Open Boys' Singles Championships and the U.S. Open Boys' Doubles Championship with Alex Clayton. Donald has maintained a consistent presence on the ATP World Tour with career highlights reaching 2 ATP Singles Finals on the tour, and notching big wins over Stan Wawrinka and Viktor Troicki at the 2011 US Open. Young is known for his quickness and his lefty forehand. When not playing tennis, he enjoys ping pong and Monopoly.
